She's calm, peaceful, and because the series was narrated by her majorly, you could understand by the way she thought that she was very different from any other girl. While she isn't incredibly smart, she also isn't a big idiot (despite showing the characteristics of it). As I've said before on this blog, Nanami is a very different character than the ones in other shoujo. Bokura ga Ita, if I had to sum it up, is about loss and uncertainty, and while it was about love, it wasn't about finding love, but securing it.īut the reason why I love this manga so much, aside from the storyline, was the characters. It doesn't resolve around "getting the girl," or "getting a boyfriend." Like I said before, the description you find on Baka-Updates or any other website is misleading.
It also is longer than the Sand Chronicles, and is fairly at 70 chapters-not to short, yet not too long.īut ultimately, what I wanted you to understand was that Bokura ga Ita was not just a simple love story. The description sounds cliche, and the drawings awfully remind you of the Sand Chronicles (which I haven't read but my good friend once was very into it before), but certainly it dives deeper into more serious, worldly topics such as death, loss (ultimately the same, I suppose), desire, and the idea of uncertainty. It's shoujo, but like many other readers agree, it lies thin on josei (although really I haven't read any at all since while shoujo is cliche, josei to me is kind of boring and the drawings are usually not very cute.while although I say that, I've read enough manga to probably accidentally read a few). So I thought to make it better thought out, I should write this as if I was explaining it to my mom, though I know she wouldn't be very interested if I actually did so.īokura ga Ita is a love story, down to the core.
